Each year, the Fayette County School System administers
standardized tests. Test results are used to identify a child’s
potential areas of strengths and weaknesses to examine and
compare system level scores and individual school’s
scores, and to determine and prioritize professional development
needs of our faculty and staff.
Descriptions of Tests
Cognitive Abilities Test (CoGAT)
This test measures your child’s intellectual potential
and is given to all 2nd graders in the fall.
Criterion Referenced Competency
Tests (CRCT)
This state mandated standards based test is administered to
all students in grades one through five. In 2005-2006, all
third grade students must pass the reading section and all
fifth grade students must pass the reading and math sections
in order to be promoted to the next grade.
Georgia Kindergarten Assessment Program (GKAP) This is a developmentally
appropriate measure of skills obtained in kindergarten.
Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)
This is a norm referenced test, which measures general academic
achievement given to all 3rd and 5th grade students in the
fall.
Writing Assessment
This is a state developed test to assess students writing
skills in grades 3 and 5.
