Mrs. Brooke Svoboda and Miss Kelly Hubbard, counselors at R.J. Burch Elementary School, work with students individually, in small groups, and in classroom guidance sessions. Mrs. Svoboda works primarily with students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade. Miss Hubbard primarily works with students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Miss Hubbard is the building coordinator for Second Step (Fayette County’s character education program) and for the county’s CARE (Children at Risk in Education) program which offers support to Fayette families by funding valuable programs such as STEP and Rainbows. Rainbows is a peer support group that helps students dealing with grief and loss because of death, divorce, deployment, incarceration, etc. Rainbows groups will be formed in early October. STEP (Systematic Training of Effective Parenting) is a course for parents which meet one evening a week for ten weeks. The cost for STEP is $15.00, which covers the cost of a workbook.
Parents are invited to contact Mrs. Svoboda or Miss Hubbard with any questions about the counseling program. They also have a collection of books and parenting information available for checkout.
The Elementary School Counselor . . .
